Overview of Activities & Researches by Planning for Disaster Risk Reduction Lab

Overview

At the Hiroi Laboratory for Disaster-Resilient Urban Design, we conduct a wide range of research centered around the theme of "disaster preparedness in metropolitan areas."
What defines the "safety" of a city? Who sets the goals, and how is safety evaluated? How can it be balanced with other urban functions such as convenience and comfort—and how do we actually achieve that balance? Our research explores these questions from an urban planning perspective, focusing on institutional design and planning strategies that support resilience.
This year’s exhibit includes a student-led English presentation on the forefront of disaster and risk reduction research (1:00 PM–2:00 PM), along with an immersive VR experience.
