the 3-meter wind tunnel
Overview
The origins of the University of Tokyo's Research Centre for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) lie in the Aeronautical Research Institute of Tokyo Imperial University, which was established in 1918. Originally located in Etchujima, the Aeronautical Research Institute began rebuilding on the western edge of the grounds of the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Agriculture (now the Komaba Research Campus) following the Great Kanto Earthquake, and completed the move in September 1930.
Today, the wooden wind tunnel (commonly known as the 3-metre wind tunnel, experiments started in 1930), which was first constructed when the Aeronautical Research Institute of the University of Tokyo was relocated to the Komaba area, still stands in Building No. 1.
